Preventative Programs

At Catholic Guardian Services, we strive to safeguard and empower families in need through supportive interventions that provide help, create hope, and preserve dignity. Our Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Services help families in difficult circumstances with holistic solutions, along with our other programs.

Healthy Families Parkchester

Established in 2008, Catholic Guardian Services Healthy Families Parkchester is a voluntary home visitation program providing support and guidance for expectant mothers and new parents living in the Bronx. Participating families are offered long-term, home, supportive services until the child is enrolled in a Head Start Program or school. New parents are guided on how to build a comprehensive support network consisting of family, friends, and members of social service and community organizations.

Parenting Resource Center

Catholic Guardian Services has more than 130 years of experience helping expectant mothers by providing concrete support and vital parenting education to ensure safer pregnancies, healthier infants and children, and stronger families.

At our Parenting Resource Center, expectant mothers have access to free parenting classes that teach them how to care for themselves during pregnancy, feed and care for a newborn, develop appropriate expectations of child development, adapt to the stresses of parenthood, and strengthen their families. Among the services we provide are: pre- and post-natal care, counseling for women in crisis pregnancies, financial assistance, and childcare supplies such as cribs and layettes.

Care Management

The goal of our Care Management Program is to make sure eligible children get the care and services they need to thrive, resulting in fewer visits to the emergency room and preventing the need for hospitalizations.

Catholic Guardian Services manages prevention programs that use evidence-based models to support families. Functional Family Therapy – Therapeutic Case Management is available to families in Manhattan. It is a three to six month program which provides weekly therapy and counseling to the family group.

Serving the West Bronx, Family Connections staff support families through advocacy with schools, employers, landlords, doctors, and others who affect the family. They also provide counseling and linkages with concrete supports like childcare, job training, and housing.
